Cannabidiol, or CBD as it is better known, is one of a number of naturally occurring chemical compounds called cannabinoids that are found in hemp and cannabis plants.
CBD has come to be seen as some sort of wonder-drug recently, with many people talking about the beneficial effects of taking CBD oil as a complimentary food supplement. In fact, newspapers and magazines are frequently discussing the latest clinical trials that suggest that CBD may have benefits for a wide range of ailments.
Mary Jane CBD is a range of products that are designed to help provide a sense of healthy wellbeing, using natural ingredients. We are developing a growing range of Full Spectrum CBD Oils that may help you
What is Full Spectrum CBD?
The plant cannabis sativa l, more commonly referred to as hemp, contains hundreds of different compounds such as cannabinoids, terpenes, vitamins, fatty acids, and proteins. In fact, there are over 100 different forms of cannabinoid alone, the best known of which are CBD and THC.
However, when extracting CBD from hemp, producers sometimes use methods that strip away some of these natural compounds, meaning that some of the benefits of using the product can be lost. When this happens, the product ceases to contain the “Full Spectrum” of the compounds and is referred to as “Broad Spectrum.”
At Mary Jane CBD, we have identified producers who use fully certified organic extraction techniques that make sure that all of our CBD oil products contain the Full Spectrum of the beneficial compounds.
The reason we have focused on making sure our products include truly Full Spectrum CBD Oils is because of a phenomenon known as “The Entourage Effect.” Research suggests that the effects of taking CBD are actually enhanced when the consumer has also taken the other cannabinoids and terpenes that naturally occur in hemp at the same time.
Our attitude at Mary Jane CBD is simple- we want to ensure that we offer the best products, which offer the most beneficial results. That’s why our CBD Oils are all marked as being Full Spectrum products.
With Mary Jane CBD, you can be confident of quality from seed to bottle!
What is Broad Spectrum CBD?
Unlike Full Spectrum products, Broad Spectrum has had some of the cannabinoids (naturally occurring compounds in hemp) removed during the extraction process. How many of these cannabinoids are list is difficult to say… basically you are getting something less than Full Spectrum, with no good explanation why.
At Mary Jane CBD we believe that Full Spectrum CBD is the most effective form, which is why we only sell organically extracted, Full Spectrum CBD Oils for our customers’ use.
What is CBD Isolate”?
The most refined form of CBD is Isolate. This is extracted from the full hemp plant, removing all other cannabinoids to produce pure CBD.
While this may sound like the ideal substance to use for a CBD product, this is far from the case.
In the first place, the other cannabinoids that naturally occur in hemp are believed to improve the effectiveness of CBD. Isolate misses out on this bonus effect, and so we would not recommend using it.
More significantly, CBD Isolate is not approved for human consumption. It can be used for cosmetic products, and is in fact a better product to use in a product designed for animals… but as it doesn’t fall into the category of a Novel Food, Isolate can not be marketed as a food supplement.
This is why the only Mary Jane CBD product that uses isolate is our specialist Pet Blend.
Cannabinoids are a range of naturally occurring compounds that develop in both hemp and cannabis plants. There are literally hundreds of cannabinoids, the best know of which are cannabidiol (CBD) or Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
While CBD has been linked to a number of potential health benefits, the effects are improved by the presence of these other cannabinoids which have their own interactions with the body’s endocannabinoid system.
This is why at Mary Jane CBD, we only supply organically extracted, Full Spectrum CBD Oil so that we can be sure that our customers are getting all of the potential benefits from the original hemp extracts- nothing less, nothing more.
THC stands for Tetrahydrocannabinol, one of the compounds (cannabinoids) that naturally occurs in hemp or cannabis plants.
Unlike the other cannabinoids though, THC is psychoactive- it is the ingredient in cannabis that causes a user to feel “high.” This is also why cannabis is a Class B controlled drug in the United Kingdom!
Luckily, CBD will only have an effect on the human body if it is consumed in sufficiently significant doses. This is why CBD products are legal to buy or use if the THC level is below 0.3%.
At Mary Jane CBD, we source our organically produced CBD extract from producers that rigorously test their products to ensure the THC level is below 0.2%, safely below the legal limit. We want our customers to be reassured that nothing we sell is harmful, or illegal!
Cannabis is a controlled drug in the UK, primarily because it has psychoactive effects. This is caused by a compound called tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC. THC is the psychoactive substance in cannabis that gets you “high.” CBD products are legal to sell in the UK if they contain less than 0.2% THC, and we ensure that every single Mary Jane CBD product has been certified as being below this legal limit.
However, because CBD products are still new to the market, they are classed as “Novel Foods” by the EU. This means that certain products can only be sold as food supplements if they meet certain standards.
At Mary Jane CBD, we make sure that every product not only meets these quality standards, but exceeds them.
As CBD products become more popular and widely discussed, there seem to be so many different products containing CBD.
However, the simplest, purest, and most effective way of using CBD products is place drops under the tongue. This allows them to be absorbed quickly into the body, where they can interact with the endocannabinoid system, a series of neurotransmitters that interact with how the body processes including inflammation and chronic pain.
Depending on your personal preferred dosage, we would recommend placing the desired number of drops under your tongue, before holding them for between 20-30 seconds. This can be done throughout the day, but we would suggest taking it 2-3 times depending on your reason for using CBD.
This depends on your requirement.
We have had reports of our product working within 40 minutes, to significant results being shown after one full week of taking our products daily.
We ask our customers to try a few drops to start, then gradually build up their dosage (drop by drop) daily to see what works for them.
Most of our customers see results after just two drops of 2.5% (1 drop of 5%).
This is a difficult question to answer generally, because people take CBD Oil for so many different reasons. Some people find that it helps them deal with disturbed sleep patterns, so they will take it before going to bed; others will have some at the start of the day as they feel it helps deal with daily stress.
As a general guide, we would suggest that a new CBD user takes 2 drops of our 2.5% strength oil up to 3 times per day, before adjusting as necessary. It is always a matter of personal preference, and can be adapted on a day-to-day basis.
There can be side effects if CBD is taken in conjunction with prescribed medication. Please see our full breakdown article with a list of all known potential medication contraindications here: CBD Drug Interactions Explained.
We urge all of our customers to speak with their GP prior to using our full spectrum products.
- If you have looked at other online CBD suppliers (it’s ok… we know you’ll come back), you may have seen blends of CBD that are 10%, 20% or even higher… with prices to match.
At Mary Jane CBD, there are a number of reasons why we keep things simpler and more affordable:
1. The first, and most obvious answer is that you don’t need a stronger blend. All CBD oils will be a mixture of the CBD extract and a carrier oil (and maybe additives, flavourings, or other things that we don’t bother with). But if you feel you need to take more CBD, the simplest way to do that is to take extra drops.
For example: If we sold a 10% blend, 1 drop would contain 5.0mg of CBD. This would be the same as 2 drops of our 5% blend, or 4 drops of our 2.5% blend. So… why not buy a bottle of 5% and take more? The effect will be the same, and you can adjust it to your needs depending how you feel at the time. You have more control, and don’t pay upward of £80 for the privilege!
2. CBD is a food supplement, extracted from industrial hemp. But hemp does not have naturally occurring levels of CBD high enough to justify these higher concentrations.
Once you start to move away from naturally occurring levels of CBD, there are some real questions to be asked about the sources of that product, and whether in fact it is suitable to be sold as a natural food supplement at all.
At Mary Jane CBD, we comply with all guidance and regulations that apply to our products, including the EU guidance on “Novel Foods.” In order to do this, we will only use organically produced CBD extracts that reflect the natural source of the product.
The short answer- No!
There is a natural assumption that if something is stronger, it is better… this can lead customers to think that if they want to try CBD for the first time, they should be buying something they perceive to be more “powerful.”
But a “stronger” CBD blend just means that you are consuming more molecules of exactly the same CBD compound in a single drop of that oil.
Many CBD companies may choose to let their customers fall into this mindset, because they are happy with one off sales of £80 or more… but at Mary Jane CBD, we would recommend that you try our weaker blend, adjusting the amount you take as you go. This means you don’t have to pay as much money for a bottle, and have more control over how much CBD you take, depending on what you feel works best for you.
Our Pet Blend CBD Oil is made using CBD Isolate- a purified extract from the natural hemp that contains no other cannabinoids and also contains Zero THC.
However, because this product is so different from the natural hemp that it is produced from, it no longer falls into the definition of a Novel Food. We therefore cannot market or sell any Isolate product, unless it is for use by animals or as a cosmetic product.
But we would recommend using Full Spectrum CBD Oils in any event, as the additional cannabinoids actually improve the effectiveness of the CBD. That’s why our range (for people) will only ever use organically extracted, Full Spectrum CBD extract- nothing less, and nothing more.
We do not recommend sharing your own bottle of Mary Jane Full Spectrum CBD oil with your pets.
The reason for this is that while Full Spectrum CBD contains less than 0.2% THC, and so is perfectly legal and safe for human consumption, it will still contain that trace amount. This may be harmful to your pet, which is why we have produced a specific blend using CBD Isolate for use on animals. By using Isolate, we can be absolutely certain that Mary Jane CBD Pet Blend contains Zero THC, and so won’t cause any problems for your cat or dog.
If your pet is undergoing any long term treatment, we would always recommend you take professional advice from a vet before you start to give it CBD.
We blend out Full Spectrum CBD Oils with organic MCT (Coconut) Oil, as this has the cleanest taste and is particularly stable to extend the life of your purchase. From the date of purchase, your bottle of Mary Jane Full Spectrum CBD Oil, or Mary Jane Pet Blend CBD will last for up to 2 years.
We recommend that you store your Mary Jane CBD Oils in a cool, dark place, out of reach of children.
Other than that, it depends how often you use CBD oil- as a rough guide, a bottle of our 2.5% blend will last up to a month, while our 5% blend will last a slightly heavier user 4-6 weeks.
Our range of CBD Oils are made of completely organic, Full Spectrum Hemp Extract*, blended with organic MCT (Coconut) oil. This produces a flavour that has been compared to “cut grass.”
We know that some other suppliers will offer CBD oils with added flavourings… Which is fine for them. At Mary Jane CBD, we like to know exactly what has gone into our products so that nothing dilutes or weakens the potential benefits from taking them.
Besides, at Mary Jane CBD we only sell to customers over 18 years old… if you want to add Kia Ora to it, that’s a matter for you!
*This does not apply to our pet range, which is made from CBD Isolate. Please see our product pages for more information.
That depends on where you are travelling. Some countries have more stricter attitudes to CBD and hemp products than others. We would recommend you speak to either your travel company or look up the specific country you are visiting to check.
As much as we would love to say yes, we can not, do not, and will not tell a possible customer that CBD can treat any particular health condition or illness. Ever.
We especially won’t tell anyone going through the anxiety or worry of cancer treatment that CBD will cure them. Doing so would be illegal, immoral, and simply wrong.
As we look into the research and anecdotal evidence about the use of CBD, we do see amazing claims about its effects… but until we see the research in a credible, peer reviewed research paper, we would always have a degree of scepticism about any “life saving” claims.
While CBD may help treat a number of symptoms of anxiety or joint pain, we recommend that you discuss CBD with your General Practitioner or Specialist before using CBD, to see if it will work alongside your full treatment plan.
However, if there is something in particular you are looking for, such as a different strength of CBD Oil or a different carrier oil, contact us and we will see if we can accommodate your needs.
Mary Jane Rathbun (December 22, 1922 – April 10, 1999), popularly known as Brownie Mary, was an American medical cannabis rights activist. As a hospital volunteer at San Francisco General Hospital, she became known for baking and distributing cannabis brownies to AIDS patients. Along with activist Dennis Peron, Rathbun lobbied for the legalization of cannabis for medical use, and she helped pass San Francisco Proposition P (1991) and California Proposition 215 (1996) to achieve those goals. She also contributed to the establishment of the San Francisco Cannabis Buyers Club, the first medical cannabis dispensary in the United States.
Rathbun was arrested on three occasions, with each arrest bringing increased local, national, and international media attention to the medical cannabis movement. Her grandmotherly appearance generated public sympathy for her cause and undermined attempts by the district attorney’s office to prosecute her for possession. The City of San Francisco eventually gave Rathbun permission to distribute cannabis brownies to people with AIDS. Her arrests generated interest in the medical community and motivated researchers to propose one of the first clinical trials to study the effects of cannabinoids in HIV-infected adults…
This in turn has lead to more clinical studies on cannabis and has helped to educate the world on the safe, legal uses of CBD Oils that we produce today.
